Help Restore a Grade I listed Priory
Would you like to help restore a Grade I listed priory in the centre of Gloucester? The Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust are offering seven people the unique opportunity to learn new practical heritage skills and help complete the restoration of the Grade I listed Brick Range. The course will take place in the historical setting of Llanthony Secunda Priory, a former Augustinian Priory and scheduled ancient moment in the centre of Gloucester.
This three-day practical course will give course participants a solid introduction on how to work with lime building materials. Each day will start with classroom time, in which you will learn about the various types of lime and when to use them. The afternoon of each day will be for practical instruction with the aim of the course being to complete the pointing of the Brick Range.
Students will complete the course feeling confident to tackle their own lime pointing projects.
Course content:
• Types of lime and when to use them
• The importance of aggregates
• Additives and their uses
• The theory of breathability
• Practical Sessions - lime pointing and wall maintenance
Everyone will receive a comprehensive handbook on how to work with lime

Ben Kerslake from carringtonLIME has been working in the conservation and restoration industry for over 20 years. This course is subsidised with thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, enabling us to charge a nominal course fee of £50.
Lunch and refreshments are included. Onsite parking is available.
Please note, that course participants will need to be physically fit. Lime pointing work is demanding and you will be required to bend, lift and work outside as part of this course.
